What a childcare provider has to arrange as an employer

A childcare provider with carers is an employer with its own sector rules. This has to be right:

  1. The right joint committee

    Dutch-speaking childcare in Flanders and Brussels falls under JC 331, the committee for the Flemish welfare and health sector. In the quarterly return you use the subdivision JC 331.00.10. French-speaking childcare falls under JC 332.

  2. The right pay

    Which pay scale applies depends on your provision and your subsidy. The minimum wage database of the Federal Public Service Employment lists the scales per subsector of your joint committee. The floor is always the statutory minimum wage: € 2,233.61 gross per month full time since 1 July 2026.

  3. Part-time and changing hours

    Many carers work part time, on a schedule that follows occupancy. A part-time contract must be in writing, with the schedule or the way you announce it. We draw up those contracts.

  4. Flexi-jobs with a ceiling

    Since the extension of 1 July 2026, Flemish childcare has a limit: flexi-jobs may make up at most 20% of the annual work volume. A flexi-jobber needs a framework agreement and a separate Dimona.

Where things often go wrong in childcare

Two common mistakes:

  1. A stand-in without a Dimona

    A student or stand-in who helps out needs a Dimona before starting, even for half a day.

  2. Hours that do not come through

    Sickness, leave and changing schedules: if the hours worked do not reach us correctly, your carer's payslip is wrong.

Can I use flexi-jobbers in childcare?

Yes, but in Flemish childcare flexi-jobs may make up at most 20% of the annual work volume. We tell you in advance whether a flexi-job fits your planning.

Do I need a social secretariat for a small childcare provider?
