Payroll for non-profits: an advisory meeting with an employer at Business Centrum in Ghent

For non-profits with staff

Payroll for your non-profit (vzw, asbl), via Business Centrum and Acerta

Does your non-profit employ staff, or is the first employee on the way? Business Centrum takes the staff work off your hands: joint committee, contracts, Dimona, salaries and the quarterly return. We are a payroll and HR office in Ghent and a partner of Acerta, a recognised social secretariat. You keep your time for your organisation's work.

What a non-profit has to arrange as an employer

Under employment law, a non-profit is an employer like any other. From the first employee, you arrange this:

  1. The right joint committee

What your organisation does decides the committee, not its legal form. If no other committee is competent, you fall under JC 337, the auxiliary committee for the non-profit sector. Socio-cultural non-profits often fall under JC 329, health services under JC 330.

  2. Pay in line with that committee

JC 337 has no pay scale of its own, except for personal assistants. You pay at least the guaranteed minimum wage: € 2,233.61 gross per month full time since 1 July 2026. At every pivot index, wages rise by 2%.

  3. Dimona and the quarterly return

Every employee gets a Dimona before starting, and every quarter the DmfA goes to the NSSO. For article 17 in the socio-cultural sector and sport, you file a separate Dimona per quarter.

  4. Work rules and insurance

Work rules and workplace accident insurance are mandatory from the first employee. A part-time or fixed-term contract must be in writing.

What Business Centrum takes over for your non-profit

This is what we take over:

  • Determining and setting up the right joint committee
  • Contracts: full-time, part-time, fixed-term or flexi
  • Every Dimona on time, including students and article 17
  • Monthly salaries, with indexation and end-of-year bonus
  • The quarterly return and NSSO contributions, via Acerta
  • Leave, sickness and absences
  • What a new hire costs, before you sign

What is left for you

You tell us who works and what changes. We call you if something is not right.

Business Centrum is a payroll and HR office and your fixed contact in Ghent. Returns to the NSSO go through Acerta, a recognised social secretariat.

The pitfalls for a small non-profit

Four mistakes that quickly cost money:

  1. The wrong committee

Pay, bonuses and indexation are then wrong, and you pay the difference afterwards.

  2. Forgetting the end-of-year bonus

In JC 337 you pay in December a fixed amount plus 2.5% of twelve times the October gross salary.

  3. Flexi-jobs without the conditions

Since 1 July 2026, a non-profit can in principle use flexi-jobbers, but only with a framework agreement, a Dimona FLX and a flexi-jobber who works enough elsewhere.

  4. A forgotten Dimona

It costs € 3,000 to € 35,000 in administrative fines per employee, plus at least € 3,674.09 in solidarity contribution. For students too.

How Business Centrum takes over

  1. Get acquainted

A free consultation about your organisation: who works there, under which committee, what is in place?

  2. Start

We set up your file with Acerta and handle the switch if you already have a social secretariat.

  3. Every month

You pass on the hours worked, we do the rest. Your staff get their payslip on time.

Payroll for a non-profit: frequently asked questions

Which social secretariat should a non-profit choose?

Every recognised social secretariat files the same legal returns. The difference is in the support: does your contact know the non-profit sector and your committee? At Business Centrum you have a fixed contact in Ghent, with Acerta as the recognised social secretariat.

Which joint committee does my non-profit fall under?

That depends on what your organisation does. If no other committee is competent, it is JC 337, the auxiliary committee for the non-profit sector. Socio-cultural non-profits often fall under JC 329, health services under JC 330.

Does a non-profit need a social secretariat?

No, you may file the returns yourself: the Dimona, the pay calculation and the DmfA every quarter. According to the NSSO, 83% of employers were affiliated with a recognised social secretariat.
