White-collar staff under JC 200, paid correctly. Warehouse workers, planners, sales staff, drivers. Every staff category has its own rules. We master them all.

Sector knowledge

Joint committee in wholesale: JC 200

Joint Committee 200 is the Auxiliary Joint Committee for White-Collar Employees. It is the largest JC in Belgium: it automatically applies to all white-collar employees for whom no specific JC is applicable.

Falls under JC 200

Office staff

Accounting, HR, administration, secretariat

Sales staff

Inside sales and representatives without a separate JC

Management

Managers, directors (unless excluded as executives)

Logistics employees

Planners, dispatchers, inventory coordinators

Warehouse employees

Warehouse managers, quality controllers (white-collar status)

In practice

Mixed staff: the big misconception

Many wholesale companies employ both blue-collar and white-collar workers. That sounds logical, but in practice it means: multiple joint committees, multiple pay scales, multiple index moments.

Separate status

Four staff categories. Two joint committees. Each with its own pay scales, its own indexation, its own year-end bonus.

One error in JC assignment and you pay too little or too much across your entire team for months. Too little leads to back pay and an inspection. Too much is an immediate loss that is difficult to recover.

Business Centrum records the correct JC classification at onboarding and checks with every job change or hire whether the classification is still correct.

Pay scales

Pay scales

Minimum wages JC 200

The scales are adjusted annually on 1 January. The job determines the class (A to D); years of professional experience determine the step. After one year with the same company, the higher scale II applies.

Forgot the index?

If after 1 January you are still paying the old wage, you are automatically below the minimum. The inspection authority can recover back pay for the entire current year, including RSZ fines.

Indexation on 1 January

JC 200 indexes every year on 1 January. Did you miss that index? You automatically pay too little and risk a fine plus back pay for the entire year, calculated for every affected employee.

From warehouse to management: every employee correctly registered.

Common mistakes

What wholesale employers often forget

Specific questions we encounter repeatedly at wholesale companies. With direct answers.

My warehouse worker loads trucks. Which JC?

It depends on whether they mainly do manual work (blue-collar) or intellectual work (white-collar), and whether the main activity of your company is transport or distribution. When in doubt, Business Centrum analyses this at onboarding and records the correct classification in the employment contract.

Year-end bonus: is it mandatory for my staff?

For white-collar employees under JC 200: yes, via a sectoral CBA of JC 200. The equivalent of a 13th month for full service. For blue-collar workers under JC 119 (food trade): also applicable via a sectoral CBA. Failure to pay means recovery plus inspection.

Can I let a sales employee work part-time?

Yes, but the exact work schedule must be recorded in writing in the employment contract. With a variable schedule you are required to communicate it in writing to the employee at least 7 working days in advance. Without proof of notification you risk a full-time calculation.

My planner sometimes works from home, sometimes at the office. Is that legal?

Yes. If it is regular (structural) remote working, CBA no. 85 requires it to be recorded in writing, usually in an addendum to the employment contract. Without a written addendum you risk problems during an inspection. Business Centrum draws up correct addenda at the start of every remote-working arrangement.
